Book Review

Hello Readers! I am Divya Parmar and i am writing this to complete classroom activity. For complete this task we were asked to write a book review and citation which we referred.

Book review:

"Ram: Scion of Ikshvaku" is the first book in Amish Tripathi's Ram Chandra series. The novel is a retelling of the story of Ramayana, one of the most famous and revered stories in Indian mythology. Tripathi's version of the story, however, is not a straightforward retelling but offers a fresh perspective on the epic, reimagining the characters and their motivations.

The novel starts with the story of young Ram, born as the eldest son of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya. The story follows his upbringing, his training in the arts of war, and his eventual exile to the forest along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana. The novel is written in the first-person narrative from Ram's perspective, allowing the reader to get a glimpse of his thoughts and feelings.

One of the things that stand out about "Ram: Scion of Ikshvaku" is the way Tripathi has reimagined the characters of the story. Ram, usually depicted as a perfect, almost godlike figure, is given a more human and relatable character. He is shown to have flaws and weaknesses, making him more relatable to the reader. Sita, too, is given a more complex character, and her journey is given equal importance in the novel. Lakshmana, often relegated to a secondary character in other versions of the story, is given more importance in Tripathi's version, and his bond with his brothers is explored in greater depth.

Another significant aspect of the novel is the world-building. Tripathi has created a detailed and immersive world that is a blend of mythology and history. The world of the novel is populated with gods and demons, but it also has a political and social structure that is based on historical India. The author has done extensive research into ancient Indian history, culture, and mythology, which is reflected in the details of the world he has created.

The novel's pacing is excellent, and the story is well-structured. The author has managed to strike a balance between action, drama, and character development. The story is gripping and keeps the reader engaged throughout. The action sequences are well-written and manage to convey the sense of epic grandeur that is expected of a story of this scale.

The themes explored in the novel are also noteworthy. The story deals with issues such as duty, honor, sacrifice, and the consequences of power. The author also explores the idea of dharma, which is central to Hindu philosophy, and its relevance in modern times. The novel also raises questions about the nature of good and evil and whether they are absolute or relative concepts.

One of the most significant strengths of the novel is the way Tripathi has managed to blend mythology and history. The story of Ramayana is a part of Indian mythology, but the author has managed to create a world that is grounded in historical reality. The world he has created is not a fantastical one but is based on ancient India, which makes it more relatable and accessible to readers who may not be familiar with Indian mythology.

The writing style of the novel is simple and easy to follow, making it an accessible read. The use of language is modern and contemporary, which may not be to everyone's taste, but it makes the story more relatable to a contemporary audience. The dialogue is crisp and witty, and the author manages to convey the personalities of the characters through their words.

In conclusion, "Ram: Scion of Ikshvaku" is a well-written and engaging retelling of the story of Ramayana. The author has managed to reimagine the characters and their motivations while staying true to the essence of the story. The world-building is immersive, and the pacing of the
